The Snuff Box is of an unusual shaped oval form, as most are rectangular in design. The cover is engraved with an outer border of pluming scrolls, trellis work, Rococo shells and flower heads. This frame encloses a beautifully executed Scottish Loch scene with a Gothic Castle on one side, mountains in the background and fishermen on the water. The sides are engraved with scroll designs on a scratch engraved ground and this example has a floral serpentine shaped thumbpiece. The base is engraved with the same outer border as shown on the cover and the contemporary inscription "Mr John Taylor - Contractor 1848." This box is very well marked and displays original interior gilding. An exceptionally decorated example, of very unusual form.

Length: 3 inches, 7.5cm.
Width: 1.9 inches, 4.75cm.
Height: 0.5 inches, 1.25cm.
