The beech frames in original condition and bearing labels from Los Angeles, California. The backs with arched crests, and flanked by ogival wings and conical, out-scrolled arms centering a loose-cushioned seat. Re-upholstered in rare, 18th century, flame stitch embroidery, and modern velvet.
Standing on cabriole front legs, and unusually, cabriole back legs, with a good rake, on pad feet. Excellent original colour and patina. Possibly American, second half of the 19th century.
Some Famous English Country Homes (The Antique Collector) illustrates a suite of furniture upholstered in flamestitch embroidery in the Pavilion Ante Room at Boughton House, the Northamptonshire seat of the Duke & Duchess of Buccleuch.
