Ancient Egyptian gold snake ring. A yellow gold ring in the form of a snake, the finely engraved lozenge shaped head leading through to a solid D-shape shank and terminating in a sinuous double coil, engraved throughout with curving scales. Tested yellow gold, approximately 7.9g in weight, circa 322-30BC.

The snake motif is one of the earliest motifs used in jewellery, being favoured since ancient times. Snakes were thought to represent the unending circle of life and everlasting love.
