Oak South Yorkshire Wainscot Chair. Most Dales Chairs are dated from 1660-1700. This joined armchair is probably from the Bradford Halifax area. The distinctive broad curly double scroll pediment with the simple diamond design below framed with the bog oak and holly bands of geometric parquetry and the high quality of joinery is indicative of work from the Bradford Halifax area. This Chair still has signs of decoration to the arms. This piece has very good patination throughout. From the fourteenth century to the seventeenth century "wainsscott" meant oak thereafter it became known as a generic term for any wood suitable for joinery work, furniture making and wood panelling.
