A fine quality Pratt Ware Jug depicting the marriage ceremony at Gretna Green, the first village beyond the Scottish Border, where English couples who had eloped together could be secretly married. On the other side Toby Fillpot, owner of the Blacksmiths Forge at Gretna Green, who could be a witness to the marriage as he was a Blacksmith.
Pratt colours Green, Yellow Blue and Brown, two very minor firing cracks on the inside and a very small chip on the spout, excellent condition and a rare example being of such a small size. English. C1800-20.
