DESCRIPTION

Antique 20th Century French solid silver & hand-painted enamel jewellery or cigarette box, of plain rectangular form, body gilded and hinged cover applied with enamel bands and central plaque has an exceptionally well-painted Romantic scene: a lady and man dressed in ancient Greek clothes embracing each other while sitting on a swing, in beautiful natural surroundings.

Hallmarked French Minerva mark (950 standard), Makers mark in a lozenge (unknown), also has later English silver import marks (925 standard), London, year 1920 (e), Importers Mark GB & SONS (George Betjemann & Sons)
