A very attractive southern Persia antique Afshar rug woven around 1890 - 1910. The condition is very good indeed with both the ends/fringes and sides/selvedges all secure and without any loss at either end. The gorgeous colours on this piece with the striking central medallion make for a fabulous rug. The subtle change in the pale blues dyes in the corners spandrels which run around the red centre are a particular highlight. Some very nice pale green dyes have also been used. This rug is of square proportions, as often Afshar's are, a lovely little rug ideal for a study, hall, landing or bedroom.

Afshars are woven in the south-west of Persia and are always colourful vibrant interesting rugs. A tribal group of weavers which originally came from Azerbaijan, between the Tigris and Euphrates, but after a dispute in the late 16th century with the Turkish sultan they left their homeland for their location during the late 19th century in the south of Persia.

Please contact us if you would like to view the rug in situ, as we offer a home visit service. We also ship worldwide.
