A finely woven sturdy antique Bidjar carpet woven around the early part of the 20th century. As these types of carpets are so tough it is no surprise it is in excellent condition. Some lovely pale blues in the border, which uses a repeating 'Boteh' motif. It has some interesting Abrash which is the term for dye change. So the rich blue background colour varies as different batches of dye were used to weave this carpet.

Rugs from Bidjar are very tough due to their structure which consists of usually five weft threads, two are loose wool threads followed by one taut cotton thread, then a further two loose wool threads. These are tightly beaten together against the knots, creating an extremely tight, compact rug. They tend to be floral in design, with the 'Herati' fish design commonly used in the main field and border.
