These exceptional antique Queen Anne Britannia silver tapersticks have an octofoil panelled form, replicating the details of a classic English 18th century style.

The panelled capitals are encircled with bands of applied decoration.

Each plain waisted column bears a panelled bulbous knop to the upper portion and further segmented knops to the lower portion.

The Britannia standard silver* columns surmount octagonal shaped domed bases with a roundedcollet style rim.

The underside of each candle does not have a weighted base and features the contemporary engraved initials 'HID'

Pairs of period tapersticks of this design and in such exceptional condition are becoming increasingly difficult to locate.

* Britannia Silver - The Britannia silver standard of 958 (95.84% of fine silver), denoted by the icon of the seated Britannia holding an oval shield, was introduced by William III in 1697. This was to indicate the slightly higher standard of silver from sterling silver standard of 925 (92.5% of fine silver).
