Great variation of indigo dyes to make a beautiful blue antique Erivan rug from the Caucasus. In very good condition, the wool is extremely soft with good pile. A nice small size rug that would look lovely in front of a fire. Early in rug history Shirvan and Erivan rugs absorbed Persian designs. From these floral motifs developed the harshang or crab-motif, a design which although now formal and stylised, almost certainly developed from Persian inspired floral motifs. Caucasian rugs are extremely collectable rugs, with many variations in style and designs. Erivan rugs were nearly always woven with a royal blue palette and bold geometric motifs.

We offer the service of viewing any of our carpets & rugs in-situ in London, Surrey, Hampshire & the UK by appointment.
Very good, with high pile and very soft wool. The ends and sides have had some minor restoration to preserve them.
