A rare green small antique Kazak rug woven in the late 19th century. It has very nteresting 'Akstafa' birds in the design along with the early yellow saffron dye in the central motifs. Very rarely see green rugs and this little piece has a great variation of green dyes, a stunning little caucasian rug in very good condition. Rugs bearing the name Kazak come from the highland area of the Caucasus whose centre is the town of Kazak. Woven by semi-nomadic shepherds of the region. They use fabulous vegetable dyes and high quality hand spun wool from their own herd. We offer the service of viewing any of our carpets & rugs in-situ in London, Surrey, Hampshire & the UK by appointment. Please contact us using the enquire form below.
In very good condition. The pile in general is high with minimal low areas and the wool is extremely soft, which you would expect of a Kazak rug. The ends and sides are original in most part with minor repair work to prevent any further loss.
