Look at what I found on the Online Galleries website!
Of cylindrical form with moulded foot, the stepped lid has a scalloped peak, it has an S shaped handle with a cast openwork thumbpiece. It has been beautifully engraved on the body with a coat of arms
within ostrich plume surrounds.
I have not yet had time to properly research the coat of arms but three boars are seen on coats of arms of Lockhart, Grimsby and James Edward Oglethorpe.
It would be a treasured piece for any discerning collector, and is sure to make an outstanding contribution to your collection.
The maker's mark is WH conjoined above a star in a heart shaped shield.
For an example of the maker's mark see 'Jackson's Silver & Gold Marks of England, Scotland & Ireland', page 132, tenth entry.
This handsome tankard is in excellent condition. Please see photos for confirmation of its condition.
