Set of four lovely Chinese export Rouge de Fer dessert plates, which date to the early 18th century, circa 1710. Painted in red and gold, the dishes show a garden with peonies and other flowers behind a garden fence. Dimensions: 8.25 inches diameter Condition: Excellent Price: $2,800 History of Rouge de Fer, or iron red: The phrase refers to the red color scheme of this type of Chinese export porcelain (also known as milk and blood). The composition and iconography conform to the style of Chinese export of the Kangxi period circa 1700. The dating of early 18th century is confirmed by the existence of Red and Gold Chinese porcelains in the collection of August the Strong (1670-1733). This type of porcelain was quite popular among the Dutch and very few pieces can be found elsewhere in Europe.
