One side of the basket is embellished with bright cut engraved stylised floral and quatrefoil motifs amidst interlacing borders.
The decoration to the body incorporates an oval cartouche displaying the engraved monogram ‘JC’.
The basket retains the original hallmarked plain swing handle.
The hallmarks to this fine Russian basket include:
Maker’s mark: МПП (untraced)
Kokoshnik mark (assayer’s initials): ИЛ (Иван Сергевич Лебедкин, Ivan Sergeyevich Lebedkin - Moscow)
Silver quality/purity mark: 84 (84 zolotniks*)
* 84 zolotniks is equivalent to 875/1000 or .875 standard silver
Height to top of handle 11.1cm/4.4"
Height to rim 5cm/1.9"
