The sides and underside of this box are embellished with fine and impressive panels of red enamel framed to the edges by a mellowed silver gilt border.
The rounded corners of the box are ornamented with an engraved geometric trellis design.
The hinged cover is fitted with an impressive central enamel panel depicting a foliate setting with a female at leisure accompanied by a male playing a lute.
The impressive enamel panel to the cover is bordered with impressive enamel scroll, leaf and bird motifs.
The interior and exterior surfaces of the box retain the original gilding.
The hallmarks to the interior of the cover and base include:
Maker’s mark: SG (untraced)
Assay mark: Dianakopf mark - A (Vienna)
Silver quality/purity mark: Dianakopf mark (.900, 900/1000)

The enamel is in perfect condition apart from a minor loss to a bird’s wing; this does not detract from the aesthetically pleasing appearance of the piece.
