An excellent quality antique silver teapot with the popular melon shape popular during the first half of the 19th century. Extremely heavy gauge silver. With a simple plain form this pot is embellished with a pretty flower finial, acanthus leaf mount to the handle and a decorative cast foot. Contains 1500 ml. Very heavy weight 1258 grams, 40.4 troy ounces. Height 17.5 cms. Spread 31.5 cms. Diameter of top 20 cms.
Indian silver makers mark P&Co for Pittar & Co, lion passant, Roman A and workers tally mark. Circa 1825-1848.
This interesting example of British colonial silver is in very good condition with no restoration. It has been water tested and does not leak. There are a few dents.

With Calcutta marks stamped underneath for Pittar & Co, the silver grade is likely to be between 800 and 900 parts pure silver in a thousand but could possibly be as high as 925 which is sterling silver.
