Look at what I found on the Online Galleries website!
The anterior and posterior surfaces of this piece are plain and unembellished.
This impressive example of antique silverware secures closed with a ball style snap-clasp and opens to reveal the impressive engineered, hinged butt holders.
Each holder is fitted with the original, individually numbered sterling silver peg.
These pegs each bear the retailer's mark 'Barker's Patent Pathfinder NO', in addition to one cover which further features the registration number '4267'.
The posterior surface of each peg is plain and unembellished.
The interior of the case retains the original gilding and bears the retailer's mark 'Albert Barker LD, 5 New Bond ST, London, W'.
* A butt marker/place finder is a device used to allow participants to draw their starting position in a game shoot. The pegs are inserted into the vesta case style device and drawn at random.
