The pieces of this exceptional, antique Edwardian sterling silver flatware service for twelve persons have been crafted in the Old English pattern.

The anterior surface of each fork and spoon handle is embellished with a contemporary bright cut engraved crest depicting a demi lion rampant holding in his paws a fleur-de-lis, all above the motto 'Fortiter et Suaviter' - Strength and Gentleness*.

Each spoon and fork has a pip to the terminal and the spoons have rounded heels to the reverse.

This Old English pattern cutlery service consists of 86 pieces:

Basic Service:
12 Table knives
12 Table forks
12 Table spoons
12 Dessert knives
12 Dessert forks
12 Dessert spoons
12 Teaspoons

Additional Pieces:
Pair of Sauce ladles

The fundamental pieces of this straight** service have been crafted by the Sheffield silversmith maker J & J Maxfield Ltd in 1907, apart from the knives which are replacements***.

The replacement knives were made in 1999 by Terry Shaverin of the London silver Vaults and assayed in Sheffield.

This impressive antique flatware service is supplied in felt cutlery rolls; which not only protect the items in storage but significantly reduce tarnishing.

* This crest and motto pertains to the family Sybly.

** "Straight" means all the pieces are made by the same maker in the same year.

*** Predominately all antique silver canteens have replacement knives as the originals have not stood the test of time.
