The anterior surface of this case is embellished with fine and impressive chased and embossed scroll leaf decoration accented with floral designs bordering a temple scene from the Philae/Philæ island depicted in relief.
The scene to the front of the case is signed with ‘Nile’ and ‘Philæ’.
The surface to the reverse of the case is ornamented with further impressive embossed and chased decoration displaying scroll, floral and trellis designs incorporating a central shaped vacant cartouche.
The rounded sides of this piece are plain and unembellished.
This card case retains the original hinged hallmarked cover ornamented with further interlacing scrolling leaf designs.
The case is fitted to the original hinged leatherette box with satin and velvet lined interior and push fit catch.
The interior of the box bears the retailer’s mark ‘Watchmakers & Jewellers, Harvey & Son, 53, Southampton Row. W.C’.
* The island Philae is situated in Lake Nasser in Egypt, formerly positioned within the first cataract of the Nile River.
