The surface of the stand is fitted with an impressive thermometer tube with a large globular bulb to the lower portion, secured with sterling silver lobed straps and featuring a pierced decorated grille enveloping the bulb.
Either side of the stem is embellished with numerically scaled markings pertaining to the fahrenheit and centigrade measurements, incorporating 'Freezing' and 'Blood Heat' indicators.
The upper portion of the piece bears the contemporary engraved inscription 'J. & E. M. G.' between the dates '1885' and '1910'; the lower portion bears an engraved continuation of the inscription date 'April 6th'.
This impressive thermometer is fitted with a hallmarked sterling silver hinged easel style strut.
This very substantial and unusual Edwardian thermometer has been crafted in an exceptional gauge of silver.
