Aubussons have been woven since the 15th Century in a town in central France. Using a flat woven tapestry technique to weave these elegant floral carpets. Louis XV and Louis XVI commissioned Aubussons for their private apartments and the Aubusson workshop flourished during the reign of Napoleon I. This luxurious palace Aubusson carpet uses the refined strength of the central motif combined with the floral designs to great effect. The beauty is in the design of this early Aubusson, along with the subtle colours typical of this period. In near pristine condition, it is a marvellous original early carpet.
This Circa 1820 Aubusson is in remarkable condition, having resided in a private residence for over 30 years. It has been cared for and has no old areas of restoration.
