The cylindrical neck of this silver and glass claret jug is fitted with an impressive sterling silver, hallmarked mount embellished with impressive pierced decorated rounded pales accented with paralleling borders.
The decoration to the mount is further ornamented with applied laurel festoons suspended from ribbon box motifs, all overlapping simple incurved cornered borders to each panel.
The underside of the fluted spout features a continuation of the applied festoon ornamentation to the body, accented with applied stylised foliate sprays to the lip and nadir.
The lower portion of this exceptional mount is embellished with embossed large swept, scrolling leaf designs to either side.
The upper rim and foot are encircled with applied tied reed decorated borders.
The mount retains the original hinged, hallmarked cover encompassed with concave flutes, in addition to applied laurel leaf and bud decoration to the plateau.
The cover is surmounted by an impressive cast sterling silver pineapple style finial.
This antique claret jug is fitted with an impressive scrolling, fluted handle accented with embossed spiralling laurel leaf designs to the handpiece and a large single leaf design to the lower terminal.
The glass body of the jug is embellished with acid etched laurel branch bow ornamentation, in addition to graduating cut flutes to the lower portion.
The foot of the jug is ornamented with a hallmarked, circular shaped mount with embossed fluted panels in addition to protruding pillar style sections ornamented with applied stylised leaf designs; the silver overlay to the foot and base indicates the exceptional quality of the piece.
