Biedermeier was a term used to describe a specific style of furniture that was popular in 19th century Vienna. Biedermeier furniture was characterised by simple, graceful curving lines and featured striking contrasts of light and dark colouring. The furniture usually features beautifully veneered wood and dark, decorative inlay.
Secretaire a abattant - tall French writing-desk, the top part of which resembles an armoire, having a door at its base. The top is often flap-fronted to provide a large writing surface when open.
