The body of this impressive French centrepiece is embellished with an exceptional chased vertical leaf decorated border below an applied laurel festoon.
The silver frame of the centrepiece incorporates three glass containers.
The dish to either end of the centrepiece is ornamented with impressive cut glass scrolling leaf ornamentation in the Art Nouveau manner, accented with a paralleling incurved, shaped upper rim.
The central glass box retains the original push fit silver cover encompassed with further chased leaf and laurel festoon decoration, identical to that of the body.
The panelled domed portion of the cover is surmounted with an impressive bud style finial.
The stand is fitted with an impressive applied laurel festoon decorated bifurcating handle accented with tied ribbon designs to each side.
The interior of the frame, handle and cover of the box all retain the original gilding.
The hallmarks to this impressive French centrepiece include:
Maker's mark: JM with two hammers and two stars above (Joseph Alexander Martel)
Silver quality/purity mark: Mercury head and number 1 (.950, 950/1000)
22.3 troy ounces/694g (excluding glass vessels and including box cover)
