This fine antique George I sterling silver toy* chamber candlestick (chamberstick) has a plain circular form.

The sunken well is plain and unembellished apart from the lion passant hallmark.

The centre of the plain well is surmounted with a cylindrical capital with an applied border around the rim.

This miniature chamberstick is fitted with a plain broad baluster shaped handle accented with a subtle rib design and a shaped terminal.

The reverse surface of the handle has been stuck with the maker's mark ‘DC’**.

This chamberstick could be used with a taper candle if so desired.

*The word toy encompasses a variety of pieces reflecting the same proportions and design features as the original examples. Originally such pieces were either collected by adults, or played with by children as genuine toys.

**David Clayton was a London silversmith renowned for producing miniatures and toys. Extants of his work may be seen in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
