Antique, George III Dressing Chest of Drawers , the top with moulded edge with below a drawer fitted with a baized brushing slide and underneath compartments for various containers with three full length drawers below, the top one with loafers either side which pull out to support the heavy top drawer, standing on shaped bracket feet. It is illustrated in Chippendale Furniture by Anthony Coleridge. The caption says it is one of a set of 4 chests made by William Masters in 1756 for the Duke of Atholl, Blair Castle, Perthshire. This chest is identical in every detail including the rather square bracket feet. The original handles and escutcheons are also virtually identical to those illustrated. The timber is "plum pudding" or as it is sometimes called San Domingo mahogany. Circa 1756.
