Antique George III Newcastle Sterling Silver Pint Mug
c. 1780 Newcastle-upon-Tyne

The surface of the mug is embellished with the contemporary engraved initials ‘WJ from WJS’.
The foot and flared upper rim of the body are encircled with bands of tooled decoration.
The mug is fitted with an impressive S scroll handle incorporating a plain thumbpiece; the handle is struck with the maker’s mark as to be expected.
This impressive pint mug was crafted by the renowned Newcastle silversmiths John Langlands I & John Robertson I.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the mug and part hallmarks to the handle are all very clear; the maker’s mark to the handle shows signs of wear in keeping with age and location, but remains legible.
