The rounded border of the sunken well is ornamented with tooled decoration to the rim.
The centre of the plain well is surmounted with a bell shaped capital encircled with an applied girdle in addition to an applied border to the rim.
The chamberstick is fitted with a plain subtly chamfered baluster shaped handle with a bifurcating scrolling lower terminal.
The reverse surface of the handle is embellished with the contemporary engraved initials ‘SH’.
The underside of the plain well bears the original scratch weight; as to be expected the measured weight has subtly diminished in keeping with age to 9.2 troy ounces.
This fine and impressive antique Scottish chamber candlestick has been crafted in an uncommon style.
Diameter of capital 2.9cm/1.1"
Length from back of handle to front rim 22.8cm/9"
Height to top of captial 7.2cm/2.8"
9.2 troy ounce/285g
