An elegant antique sterling silver tray of oval form and raised on splay feet. Classical style with a gadroon border and side carrying handles. The centre has deep hand chased decoration with flowers, leaves and scrolls. In the middle there is a very pretty shell engraved cartouche with an initial in old fashioned cursive script. Weight 2468 grams, 79.3 troy ounces. Spread across handles 61.5 cms. Length 52 cms. Width 38 cms. London 1804. Maker Hannam & Crouch.
This lovely tray is in very good condition with no damage or restoration. The chased decoration is crisp and original. With a good, full set of English silver hallmarks.

Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.
The first trays were oval shaped and did not appear until the late 18th century. The rectangular form was not generally seen until the early 1800’s. Some early salvers were originally called trays, this word is now used when there are two handles.
