An elegant antique sterling silver tray of oval form with wide swept scroll carrying handles. Flat bottom. Plain classical style with reed borders. Both handles are hand engraved with a horn and arrow crest. Weight 3325 grams, 106.9 troy ounces. Spread across handles 69 cms. Length 55 cms. Width 42 cms. London 1796. Maker Hannam & Crouch.
This lovely tray is in very good condition with no damage or restoration. The engraved crests are still crisp. With a good, full set of English silver hallmarks. Uninscribed.

The first trays were oval shaped and did not appear until the late 18th century. The rectangular form was not generally seen until the early 1800’s. Some early salvers were originally called trays however this word is now generally used only when there are two handles.
