These fine antique George III sterling silver butter dishes have a plain scallop shell shaped form.

What would be the umbo, of the natural shell, forms the impressive plain scrolling handpiece to each dish.

The handpieces of these shell butter dishes are embellished with a contemporary bright cut engraved crests depicting a demi lion rampant and charged with a lozenge.

These fine pieces of antique silverware are each supported by two nautilus style shell feet.

The underside of each dish bears the scratch weight 2"12, which converts to 2.6 troy ounces; as to be expected the measured weight has subtly diminished in keeping with age to 2.5 troy ounces
