Antique George III Sterling Silver Teapot

The lower portion of the body is embellished with embossed fluted decoration, incorporating a vacant cartouche to either side.
The flared shoulders of the teapot are ornamented with an applied gadroon decorated border accented with leaf and rose motifs to each rounded corner and a simplified design to the centre of each side.
This fine York silver teapot is fitted with a plain flush hinged hallmarked cover embellished with further embossed fluted decoration to the domed portion; the flush hinge indicates the fine quality of this piece.
The cover retains the original sterling silver oval fluted finial with a central floral motif.
The teapot is fitted with a C shaped handle ornamented with a panel of ribbed decoration in addition to an impressive single leaf thumbpiece.
This antique teapot has an impressive flat sided swan necked spout with an impressive applied leaf design to the upper plateaued surface and a fluted motif to the underside.
This exceptional teapot was crafted by James Barber & William Whitwell in the provincial city York, England.
