This magnificent antique George IV Irish silver tea caddy, in sterling standard, has an oblong bomb shaped form.

The surface of the tea caddy is embellished with exceptional chased decorated scrolling leaf and floral decoration, incorporating a shaped cartouche to either side.

The cartouche to one side bears the contemporary engraved coat of arms* and crest depicting a cockatrice, wings elevated, tail nowed combed and wattled, all above the motto 'Decrevi' - I have resolved; the other cartouche remains vacant.

The decoration to the body is further ornamented with a large single leaf design to each corner.

The upper portion of this impressive tea caddy is fitted with an elevated plain rectangular rim and retains the original hallmarked push fit cover ornamented with further chased floral decoration to each side.

The cover is surmounted with an exceptional cast, hallmarked sterling silver finial realistically modelled in the form of a figure holding a parasol and sat on a terrain covered mound.

The cover is further ornamented with chased leaf decoration to the rim.

This magnificent Irish silver tea caddy is the finest example of its type you could hope to acquire.

* The heraldic markings pertain to the Nugent family
