The plain cylindrical capitals retain the original hallmarked detachable push fit sconces ornamented with applied gadroon decorated borders.
The surface of each sconce is further embellished with the bright cut engraved initials 'RS'.
The knops to the upper and lower portions of the plain tapering column are encircled with a gadroon decoration.
The candlesticks have circular swept bases encompassed with further gadroon decoration and embellished with a contemporary bright cut engraved crest depicting out of a ducal coronet a erased lions head.
Both silver candlesticks have weighted bases, as to be expected, and are fitted with green baize to the underside.
This pair of candlesticks were crafted by the revered and renowned, collectable Birmingham silversmith Matthew Boulton; sterling silver items by this maker are becoming increasingly scarce.
Diameter of sconce 6.3cm/2.5"
Diameter of capital 4.5cm/1.8"
Diameter of base 13.7cm/5.4"
An accurate weight of silver cannot be provided as these candlesticks have weighted bases.

The gadroon decoration is very sharp and the bright cut engraved decoration is very crisp.
Full hallmarks struck to the surface of each base and to the sleeve of each sconce are all very clear.
Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these fine examples of antique silverware.
