This fine and impressive antique George IV sterling silver quart* tankard has a baluster form onto a plain spreading circular foot.

The tankard is embellished with original chased floral, leaf and scroll decoration incorporating a scene depicting two birds in a rural country setting.

The body of this tankard is further ornamented with two scrolling leaf bordered shaped cartouches: the cartouche to one side displays a bright cut engraved crest of a demi-lion rampant. The cartouche to the other side of the tankard displays a coat of arms of a saltire with roundel, above three bars wavy**.

This antique George IV tankard retains the original hinged hallmarked domed cover surmounted with shaped pierced decorated thumbpiece.

The cover is encircled with chased floral and foliage decoration accented with a stylised motif to the top.

The hinge is decorated with pendant drop style ornamentation.

Both the cover and the body of this fine tankard have gilt interiors.

The large tankard is fitted with a fine opposing scroll handle ornamented with a scroll terminals and impressive scrolling acanthus leaf decoration.

*Imperial quart = 2 pints/1.14 litres

** These arms are a variant of the family of Watlington, of Caldicot Hill, Aldenham in the County of Hertfordshire.
