Antique George IV Sterling Silver Racing Presentation Cup and Cover

The upper portion of this large cup is embellished with a fine and impressive band of applied fruiting vine decoration on a matte background.
The lower portion of the body and domed portion of the cover are encircled with impressive chased water leaf designs, accented with bulrush motifs.
To one side of the body of the cup is a fine and impressive rectangular cartouche ornamented with a leaf decorated border framing the inscription ‘The Welham Cup, won by Mr Hill’s black horse Blackwood, at the Malton Craven Meeting. April 30th 1835’*.
The other side of the cup is embellished with a bright cut engraved crest of a talbot's head erased, collared, and ringed, semée with three cinquefoil.
This presentation cup is fitted with two exceptional handles ornamented with sharp and impressive acanthus leaf decoration to the lower bifurcating terminal and a husk decoration to the spiralling upper terminal.
This antique presentation cup is fitted with the original hallmarked push fit cover with a panelled lower potion and domed upper portion.
The cover retains the original fine and impressive sterling silver finial, realistically modelled in the form of a horse surmounted on a circular chased decorated grass textured base.
The hallmarked detachable finial secures to the interior of the cover via the original hallmarked nut.
The rim of the cover and knopped pedestal is encircled with a chased water leaf decorated border.
The foot is also embellished with chased water leaf decoration above the inscription ‘S.L.FOX ESQr AND H.HUDSON ESQr STEWARDS’.
This large George IV cup retains its original gilt interior.
This antique cup is fitted to the original oak hinged box with green velvet lining; the box is crudely made, constructed for this impressive example of presentation silverware.
This exceptional cup was crafted by the collectable and renowned London silversmiths Rebecca Emes & Edward Barnard I.
*NOTE: This cup was awarded to the winning hunter, in addition to a purse of 50 sovereigns.
