The surface of this fine antique plate is plain and unembellished.
The shaped border is ornamented with the fine and impressive contemporary bright cut engraved coat of arms of an escutcheon displaying a chevron between three steels or butts of broken spears, all above the motto 'Fortiter Et Fieliter' - Bravely and Faithfully.
The coat of arms is surmounted with a crest depicting out of a tower a speared lion's head.
The border is further embellished with impressive applied gadroon decoration to the rim.
The underside of the plate bears the retailer's mark 'Made in England for J.E.Caldwell & Co' in addition to the registration number '77538'.
The underside of the plate is further ornamented with the engraved initials 'IJS' and date 'MCMXXX' - 1930.
