A superb pair of early Dublin cast candlesticks of circular form with a baluster stem and sunken well base. Sterling silver. Lovely plain style and good gauge silver. Weight 628 grams, 20.1 troy ounces. Height 16 cms. Base 10.2 cms. Each is stamped within the well of the base with Irish silver hallmarks for Dublin 1734. Maker James Douglas. These lovely candle holders are in very good condition with no damage or restoration. Excellent colour. With a full set of Dublin Irish silver hallmarks stamped on the top of the base in the well which are clear (harp marks slightly rubbed). Also marked with traces of the harp mark on both candle sconces.
Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.
Cast candlesticks first appeared circa 1685 and are cast in two separate sections, the base and the stem in two halves. They are heavier in weight and are capable of withstanding greater wear.
