A rare pair of early Dublin cast candlesticks having octagonal bases with sunken wells and diamond faceting. The baluster stem follows the outline of the base. This is very desirable shape. Sterling silver. Lovely plain style and good gauge silver. Weight 662 grams, 21.2 troy ounces. Height 15.5 cms. Base 10 cms. Each is stamped within the well of the base with Irish silver hallmarks for Dublin 1737. Maker John Hamilton.
These lovely candle holders are in very good condition with no damage or restoration. Excellent colour. With a full set of Dublin Irish silver hallmarks stamped on the top of the base in the well. The Dublin harp and date letter are clear, there is no Hibernia mark as this did not start until 1734. The diamond faceting has good definition with some acceptable wear.

Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.
Cast candlesticks first appeared in England circa 1685 and are cast in two separate sections, the base and the stem in two halves. They are heavier in weight and are capable of withstanding greater wear.
