A fine early 19th Century longcase clock with oak case, inlaid with mahogany and satinwood, signed W Massey, Nantwich.

William Massey of Nantwich, was a well known maker in the area.

Born in Eccleshall, Staffordshire in 1783, the son of Lawrence Massey, also a Nantwich clock maker. Worked in the High Street from 1802 to 1850. He retired and was at Dysart Buildings in Nantwich from 1851 to 1861. He died 22 Jan 1862.

Twin train movement of eight day duration with anchor escapement rack striking on single bell.

Arched painted dial by Walker & Finnemore of Birmingham, which dates this clock to circa 1810. Hours in arabic numerals, and minutes numbered 15, 30, 45 , 60. Second hand and date wheel.

The hood has square fluted pillars, inlay stringing above the arch, and swan neck pediment.

Door to the case is cross-banded in mahogany, and has an ogee shaped top. With square fluted pillars to the sides. Lower part of case features inlaid fan pattern to the four corners. Standing of ogee shaped bracket feet.
