The box is made of solid Mahogany with three carved figures playing a popular game called Xianggi, or Chinese Chess.
The interior contains two trays with a mixture of Ivory, Bone and Bamboo dovetailed gaming blocks and a further four trays underneath which contain bone dice and stick counters.
There is also a "MAH JONGG how to play and score" second edition booklet written by C. M. W. Higginson and published by J. Jaques & Son, Ltd., London.
This contains an introduction to the game, description of pieces, the play, penalties, method of scoring, examples of hands and an Index and Glossary.
Jaques & Son of London are one of the oldest games companies in the world having been passed down from Father to Son for six generations. After being officially established in 1795 by Thomas Jaques, the company gained a reputation for publishing games under his grandson John Jaques.
