Look at what I found on the Online Galleries website!
The panelled body of the antique silver dish is plain and unembellished with an incurved shaped rim.
The surface of the dish is ornamented with a contemporary engraved coat of arms depicting party per pale, in the first three quill heads, and in the second party per fess vertical bands and a crescent.
The underside of this strawberry dish bears the original scratch weight 12.3 troy ounces; as to be expected the measured weight has subtly diminished in keeping with age to 11.7 troy ounces.
This impressive dish is fine quality and an excellent gauge of silver of its type.
* Britannia Silver - The Britannia silver standard of 958 (95.84% of fine silver), denoted by the icon of the seated Britannia holding an oval shield, was introduced by William III in 1697. This was to indicate the slightly higher standard of silver from sterling silver standard of 925 (92.5% of fine silver).
11.7 troy ounces/365g
