This cabinet has almost certainly been produced by one of the best cabinet making firms of the time due to the high quality materials used in all parts of the construction including the concealed drawers & trays, which are faced with decorative rosewood veneers. It also bears a paper label to the underside of a drawer lining, stating who the cabinet was made for and where they lived. Unfortunately the label doesn’t state the maker but based on the overall quality & design, along with the particularly fine & distinctive brass inlay we suggest George Oakley.
The brass inlaid Egyptian rayed suns which can be found in the corner of each door and the fine boulle type inlay was a particular speciality of Oakley’s and can be found adorning many pieces previously documented to him.
