A very good silver chocolate pot with removable lid with a finial in the form of a globe artichoke. The handle capped with a shell thumb piece and the spout embellished with acanthus leaf decoration.

The Crown on the chocolate pot is the Imperial Crown of Russia. The letter on the cypher is A and the number is III. As the date is 1881 this is the year in which the Tsar Alexander III succeeded his father Alexander II on 13 March 1881 when the latter was assassinated. Alexander III (1845-1894) died in 1894 when he was succeeded by his son Tsar Nicholas II (1868-1918) who was murdered at Ekaterinburg.
