The plain surface of this piece is embellished with the impressive contemporary engraved initials 'HC'
This antique Russian case is fitted with a spring loaded coin holder to three terminals; the currency of origin for the piece is the rouble (sign: ₽).
The hallmarks to the fourth solid plateaued terminal include:
Maker's mark: ТН
Silver quality/purity mark: 84 (84 zolotniks*)
City mark: St Petersburg**
* 84 zolotniki is equivalent to 875/1000 or .875 standard silver.
** The use of the dvoinik, the combined city and standard mark, was used between 1882-1899; this determines the date of this piece as circa 1890.
