This wonderful, Sèvres style mantel clock was crafted in the late 19th Century by the famous Parisian clock-making firm, Le Roy et fils. The company was founded in 1785 by Basile Charles Le Roy, who later passed it on to his son, Charles-Louis Le Roy. The firm was well-respected in France, receiving commissions from the Emperor Napoleon I, his sister, Princess Pauline, and other notable figures, both in France and elsewhere in Europe. Encouraged by their success in France, Le Roy et fils set-up a showroom in London, on New Bond Street. They soon became famous in London, and were awarded a Royal Warrant from Queen Victoria.

The clock consists of a circular pink porcelain dial, which is topped by a gilt bronze finial, taking the form of a bird pecking at ripe grapes. The dial features a central white circle, painted with a pair of cherubs, and bordered by Roman Numerals. The dial is edged with gilt organic patterns, decorated with turquoise, red and white jewelled flowers. A pedestal raises the circular dial off the ground. This porcelain pedestal is mounted with a gilt bronze Ionic volute capital, and foliate base. It is painted, on its front, with an image of a cherub holding an hourglass. Flanking the dial and pedestal are two scrolled gilt bronze forms, which are topped by classical female busts. These terminate, at their bases, in groups of gilt bronze objects, one depicting musical instruments and the other weaponry and armour. The clock stands on a shaped gilt bronze base, with a pink porcelain front, which is mounted with a gilt bronze classical female mask and foliage swags. The base is set on six gilt bronze feet, four of which are square and two scrolled.

This gilt bronze mounted pink porcelain clock will look beautiful placed on a mantelpiece, on a pedestal or occasional table. It will add beauty and a feminine touch to an interior.
