A charming antique silver mounted horn snuff box having a hinged lid with inset silver disc and a shield to the front. The quality of the horn is particularly good. Length 8 cms. Diameter 4 cms. Unmarked silver. Most probably Scottish. Circa 1820.
This desirable little Scottish collector’s item is in excellent condition with no damage or restoration. The horn is smooth and has a good colour. The silver is unmarked. There is a small mark on the lid close by the cental disc - this seems to be a blister in the horn.

Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.
Grinding tobacco leaves in order to inhale the powder dates from the mid 17th century in Europe however the first snuff boxes don’t seem to have appeared until the reign of William III circa 1695.
