Decoratively turned front legs terminating in pad feet, connected by turned front stretcher. Double side and single back stretcher. The lower two side stretchers are shaped, and are connected by an additional shaped cross stretcher.
Lovely rich colour, nice strong patterns in the grain, and good patina.
Notice how the grain on the front legs goes out in concentric circles at the widest part (seat level). The timber would have been chosen and turned very deliberately to create this effect.
The careful choice of timber and the additional decorative stretchers show this chair was made as a superior example.
Attributed to Lancashire / Cheshire region.
Seat height 17 inches (43 cm).
