A fine example of a Staffordshire pottery pearlware bull baiting group from the early 19th century period.
This figure is well modelled and decorated in good enamels.
Bull baiting was a barbaric rural sport but surpringly the related figures produced by the Staffordshire potters are amongst the best produced by them. They encapsulate many of the iconic features of pottery from the early 19th century and provide a glimpse into the past of rural England.
Some good restoration.

and in the newly published Staffordshire Figures 1780-1840 Volume 2 Chapter 83 Bull Baiting figure reference 83.2 page 129.
