The fundamental components of this canteen were crafted by James Henry & Herbert Barraclough of Z Barraclough & Sons and the remaining pieces were crafted by Josiah Williams & Co, all in London between 1929 and 1940.
Each silversmith produced this flatware set using an identical dye set allowing the service to have correlating proportions.
This impressive set benefits from the original carving set fitted with bone handles and bearing the maker's mark 'Z. Barrackough & Sons Ltd, Silversmiths, Leeds'.
The original bone handled knives bear the maker's mark 'Z. Barrackough & Sons Ltd, Silversmiths, Leeds' to the stainless steel blades; one knife have been crafted in the same size and from the same period but by a different maker.
This canteen of cutlery can be purchased with plain sterling silver handled Hanoverian pattern knives and supplied in felt cutlery rolls if so desired; for further information please contact Andrew Campbell directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
This exceptional canteen of cutlery is fitted to the original and impressive oak wood three drawer canteen box which features brass drawer handles and a plain rectangular vacant cartouche to the upper surface.
The hinged doors of the canteen box incorporate a mahogany panel to the centre and is fitted with a button style handle and brass escutcheon.
The interior of the box bears the inset ivory maker/retailer's mark 'Z. Barrackough & Sons Ltd, Silversmiths, Leeds'.
This canteen of cutlery is an exceptional example, as to be expected from such London made flatware; locating an antique service fitted to the original box is becoming increasingly difficult.
